Stop procrastinating

Most people procrastinate occasionally and especially when it comes to tackling an unpleasant task. Unfortunately procrastination only intensifies internal pressure, out-of control feelings and increased levels of stress and overwhelm.

Steps to overcoming procrastination:

 Take charge of your day

Like all people in your position, you probably find that you have specific goals, plans and schedules for your day. By half an hour into your day, however, you may find any number of unexpected things crowding in on you from a variety of different directions…and before you know it, your schedule flies ‘out the window’, your stress level is rising and you feel out of sorts and out of control.

Unless YOU take charge of your day, it will take charge of you.

Characteristics of admired leaders

Kouzens & Posner – authors of The Leadership Challenge - administered a questionnaire to over seventy-five thousand people around the globe, asking respondents to list the qualities they “most looked for and admired in a leader - someone whose direction they would willingly follow”. The authors report that four characteristics received over 50% of the votes. Following, I have listed these four characteristics together with a short summary explanation, using – where possible – the author’s description.

Taming the email monster

Having the ability to shoot off an email at any time of day or night and knowing that it will appear in the recipient’s inbox almost instantaneously, regardless of where they may be located (next door or thousands of kilometers away)  has most certainly done wonders for modern business communication. However, email can be as much of a curse as it is a blessing.

Let me illustrate this for you by asking you a couple of questions:

  • How many emails do you find in your inbox each morning?

  • How many of those emails are urgent….important…..or even necessary?

  • On how many of them were you cc’d? Was that urgent……important….or even necessary?

  • How many emails await you after each weekend?

  • How many emails clog up your inbox after a holiday?
